Dorothy M. (Holibaugh) Maher Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dorothy M. (Holibaugh) Maher, 80, went “Safely Home” January 9, 2005 at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Born April 30, 1924, in Alliance to the late Arthur and Lucille (Moulin) Holibaugh she attended St. Joseph School and graduated from Alliance High School. An Alliance native, spending eighteen years in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, she returned to the area in 1982, residing in Uniontown. Dorothy’s love for animals was her characteristic trademark, always having one or two as her loved ones, and never passing up to care or show compassion to stray animals. Her many visits to the zoo were always anticipated with childlike joy. She enjoyed dancing, ranging from the youthful jitterbug to square dancing with her beloved husband. Swimming and traveling with her friends were favorite activities. Dorothy was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Uniontown. She had a love for her church and was a deep devotee to her God. A special thanks to Fr. John Zapp for the fulfillment of her spiritual needs and also to the members of Holy Spirit Church. Survivors include her daughter, Theresa Laux of Michigan City, IN; a son, Chuck A. Maher of Uniontown; a sister, Harriet Huffman of Alliance; 2 grandsons, Brent (Michele) Laux and Todd Laux, both of Indiana; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Morgan, Hannah, Madison, Bailee and Ethan Laux; and 4 sister-in-laws, Margie Krishner, Joanne Powell, Patty Morrow and Margaret Maher. Mrs. Maher was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles A. Maher in 1983; 2 brothers, Robert J. and William E. Holibaugh; and son-in-law, Paul Laux in 1998. Friends may call at the Walton-Schrader Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, January 14, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. John Zapp and Rev. Fr. Donald Feicht as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Alliance. Dot will live forever with her friends and family.
