Harold G. Knapp

Harold G. Knapp, 85, of Sebring, passed away on December 29, 2009 at his home. He was born on January 25, 1924, in Rootstown, to the late Urban A. and Helen (Pieffer) Knapp. Mr. Knapp joined the army on May 21, 1944 and served with the Company L 18th Infantry Regiment 1st Infantry Division. He served in World War II as a Light Mortar Crewman and earned a Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on March 24, 1947. Harold then enlisted in the National Guard on October 13, 1947 and was honorably discharged on October, 12, 1950 with the Tank Company 1st bn 107 Armed Cav. Harold was employed with A&P Grocery Store and AC Williams factory for 35 years and retired in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion in Ravenna. In his past time he enjoyed boating at Lake Milton and bowling. He also enjoyed building car models and watching Mt. Union and Dallas Cowboys football games. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Mildred Knapp of Sebring; a daughter, Bonnie Knapp (Paula Pearce) of Rootstown; three sons, Brett Knapp of Cuyahoga Falls, Brian Knapp of Atwater and Barry Knapp of Sebring; four grandchildren, Brandi (Josh) Smallwood of Ravenna, Sarah Knapp of Cuyahoga Falls, Samantha Knapp of Atwater and Brian Knapp, Jr. of Atwater; a half sister, Viola (Dale) Miller; and several nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his step-mother, Lucille Brown; a two granddaughters, Kristin and Karah Cole; a great-grandson, Brandon Cole; a half-sister, Betty Cozart. The family will receive friends at Walton-Schrader Funeral Home on Saturday, January 2, 2010 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. A Memorial service will be held at Walton-Schrader Funeral Home on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. Military honors will be provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036.
