Hazel M. Gibson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Hazel M. Gibson, 94, of Alliance, died on Friday, June 22, 2007, at 8:34 a.m. at the Sterling House of Alliance, where she has resided for the past five years. Born in Marion Hill, New Brighton, PA, on May 22, 1913, she had lived in Alliance most of her life. Graduating from New Brighton High School as valedictorian, she went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree and her master's degree from Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, PA. It was there that she belonged to the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and Kappa Delta Pi. Hazel taught business education at Rochester High School in Rochester, PA. Mrs. Gibson was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, the Alliance Woman's Club, the Searchlight Club and the Buckeye Trailer Club. Survivors include her daughter, Judy McElhaney of North Jackson; her sons, John Gibson of Cape Coral, FL, and Daniel Gibson of Alliance; seven grandchildren, Trent McElhaney, Julie McElhaney, Kim Frattone, Christine Robinson, Ron McDaniel, Robert Gibson, and Deanne Cunningham; 13 great-grandchildren, Caroline, Anne Marie and Joseph Frattone, Matthew and Mikayla Robinson, Megan and Parker Gibson, Sarah, Mariah, Cory and Donnie Cunningham, and Alexandra and Maya McDaniel; two nephews, Gary and Brad Book; and brother-in-law, Edward Book. Preceding her in death were her husband, Walter J. Gibson on March 13, 1993, (they were married on August 16, 1941); her parents, Ira and Matilda Brewer; and her sister, Martha Book. Friends may call at Walton-Schrader Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 26, 2007, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Parker, PA on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., where she will be buried alongside her husband, Walter.
